Team management

About

Being flexible and customisable, Squad in Touch allows you to manage your events the way you prefer. When teams and events are in question you can choose from a variety of options including:

  • using pre-defined teams you can create at the start of the season
  • creating teams right from the fixture form with an option to save the list as a new team
  • selecting pupils for each event separately without using the team functionality

You can also combine the options described above or use different options for different event types. When you use a saved team for an event you can edit it right from the fixture form. Once amended you can either save changes to the existing team if such changes are permanent or just keep them for a particular event without amending the original team.

It is recommended to create the set of teams you are going to use once you know the players, this will make the process of adding events/fixtures easier and quicker for you.

Please note that teams can only be created for team sports like football, netball etc. For individual events like swimming, athletics and cross-country competitions you will need to add participants when creating a fixture.

Creating teams

Creating a team from scratch

To create a team you will firstly need to go to the "Schools" tab and from there select the "Teams" tab on the blue ribbon.
This will then pull up the list of all your current teams on Squad In touch, if there are any.

To add a new team click NewTeam.png button, this will then pull up the creation form.

  • Team Name; this needs to be how you identify the team, you will not need to put in the sport name in this section however you may like to put in the age group, gender and any other identifiable information like 'First Team'.
  • Team Description; this is an optional field you can use for adding a team description.
  • Game; this needs to be a sport for which you are creating a team. Please be aware that you will need separate teams for different types of the same sport - like Football and Football 5-a-side

The fields described below determine the filtering criteria that will be applied to the list of students available for adding to the team.

  • Age Group - This field can be left blank; in this case all students will be available for selecting irrespective of their age group.
  • Gender - Please note that you will not be able to select a single-gender team when you create a mixed event.
  • Filtered by house - Enable this checkbox if you are creating dedicated teams for school houses. Please see details of creating such a team below.

Once you have specified all the fields described above the list of students matching the criteria will be generated. You can add them to the team and also specify their pitch positions and/or mark captains and substitutes. Team members you have added to the team can be changed when you create a fixture if you need to change them for any reason. You will then be provided with the option to save as a new team, use for just one event or override the current saved team.

Creating teams for house games

Once you have turned on the "Filtered by house " checkbox you will be able to select a house. The list of students available for adding to the team will then be filtered by this house.
When you are creating a fixture between houses such teams will be available for adding to such a fixture.

Each time you are creating a fixture adding team members manually the platform suggests saving a new team.

If you select the Save as new team option a new team will be created and become available for selecting in future events matching the team criteria.

Selecting team for a fixture

When you are creating a fixture you can select one of pre-created teams rather than add team members manually. To choose a team use the Select team button on the team members form.
The list of available teams will contain all the teams that match the fixture criteria (age(s), gender(s)). The fixture created for Y6, Y7 and Y8 will allow to select all Y6 teams, Y7 teams, Y8 teams as well as Y6-Y7 teams and Y7-Y8 teams but it won't allow to select for example Y4 team or Y7-Y9 team.

Editing teams

If you would like to edit a team there are two ways in which you can do this;

  1. Via the Teams tab
  2. When you create a fixture

Editing teams via the Teams tab

If you need to make any permanent changes to the team (like amending year groups, adding new team members or removing those team members who have left the team) you can do this by going to the Schools tab and selecting Teams. Then you will need to find the team you would like to change and click edit button.
Please note that if you are changing age groups and/or genders you will have to add all team members once again. Once saved the team will be updated and changes will be applied to all the fixtures you will be adding this team to from this moment.
Please be aware that the changes will not be applied to the events in the past. If you need to change the team members for such an event you will need to make changes to the team via the event form itself.

Editing teams from the fixture form

You can make changes to the existing team when creating/editing a fixture. Make any changes by adding / removing player or changing the name and then click continue. Upon clicking the Save button you will get a pop up box that will ask you whether you would like to "Use team for this event only" / "Save as a new team" / "Update the current team". If you would like to edit the team for good, then select the option to update the current team.

Removing a team

If you would like to remove a team hen you can do this by going to the Schools tab > Teams tab in the blue ribbon, from the list you can remove any teams you no longer need.
Removing a team will not affect any past fixtures it has been added to and all team members will remain in their fixtures.

Updating teams for a new season =

Each season you might need to update your teams, you can do this by editing your current teams (in the above guide) or you can create new teams. Please note that each year you will need to update your teams to reflect the students new year groups.
